The Universidad del Caribe (UNICARIBE) and CAYEI-UNICARIBE will represent the Dominican Republic at COP16, the world’s most significant event on biodiversity, taking place from October 21 to November 1, 2024, in Cali, Colombia. On this occasion, UNICARIBE will participate alongside its strategic partner, Bauen Project, with whom it has established an alliance focused on implementing Nature-Based Solutions (NbS), regenerative and community tourism, and ecosystem conservation in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The objectives of this collaboration are:
-Train local actors in ecosystem conservation and restoration.
-Develop technical skills in regenerative agriculture and sustainable land and water management.
-Promote research that integrates ancestral knowledge with modern science to improve natural resource management.
-Strengthen regional and international networks to mobilize resources and replicate methodologies in other regions.
The Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management and Renewable Energy and the degree in Hospitality and Tourism are the key drivers to achieve these objectives, positioning UNICARIBE as a leading university in environmental sustainability, climate change adaptation, and ecosystem conservation. COP16 on Biodiversity will be a crucial platform to consolidate the foundations of this project, reaffirming UNICARIBE’s joint commitment to promoting real and sustainable change in the region.
