We celebrate UNICARIBEÑA talent and creativity, recognizing two innovative projects that are making a difference in inclusive entrepreneurship and positive social impact!

The University of the Caribbean (UNICARIBE) has implemented a strategy to promote the competencies identified as essential for 21st century education. According to the World Economic Forum, the four key competencies to face the global challenges posed by the United Nations (UN), through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), are the 4Cs: Collaboration, Creativity, Communication and Critical Thinking.

At UNICARIBE we have taken on this recommendation of the World Economic Forum by launching a strategic initiative that materializes in the UNICARIBE Innovation and Entrepreneurship Laboratory. The purpose of this laboratory is to take advantage of multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collective intelligence, promoting the development of the skills and competencies of the 4Cs.

In this context, during the current year, our students have actively participated in various innovation networks, challenges, bootcamps, innovation rallies, competitions, among other activities at national and international level.

In particular, on May 30, we proudly celebrated the presentation of the ILAN University Innovation Awards at the University of the Caribbean. These awards were created with the purpose of recognizing and promoting university innovation projects with high social impact, which contribute to improving people’s lives.

Two students from our university were awarded and will have the opportunity to travel to the State of Israel to learn about its ecosystem of research, development, innovation and entrepreneurship, with the firm purpose of learning from one of the leading countries in innovation, according to the Global Competitiveness Index.

We congratulate Perla Patricia Guzmán Rosario, with the Emprendizaje project, for their effort, dedication and commitment. We also extend our congratulations to all the students who participated in this call.

Below, we share the value proposition of each project and a testimonial from their creators about this valuable experience.

Value proposition of the Emprendizaje project
Emprendizaje is a project developed in FUNAJIT, which encourages young people from vulnerable contexts to develop their entrepreneurial mindset through experiential workshops and personalized mentoring processes. We seek to awaken leadership, creativity and the capacity for action in each participant, providing them with practical tools to turn their ideas into real projects. We believe in the transformative power of active learning and human accompaniment to generate a lasting impact in the neediest communities.

Testimonial from Perla:
“Receiving the ILAN award has been one of the greatest joys of my life.
I feel that this recognition validates all the effort, dreams and commitment that we have put into Emprendizaje. It fills me with pride to be able to represent my country and demonstrate that, from the Dominican Republic, it is also possible to generate a real impact. This is just the beginning.
