Santo Domingo. The University of the Caribbean (UNICARIBE), through the Don José Andrés Aybar Castellanos Library, joined in commemorating the 46th anniversary of the Association of Dominican University Libraries (ABUD), an organization that for more than four decades has promoted the strengthening and modernization of the country’s university libraries.

As an active member of this organization, which is affiliated with the Dominican Association of University Presidents (ADRU), UNICARIBE recognizes the important work that ABUD has carried out since its creation, promoting cooperation among libraries and information centers at institutions of higher education and contributing to the development of scientific and technological information resources and services in the Dominican Republic.

During the commemorative event, an institutional video was shown highlighting the association’s evolution, achievements, and contributions over its 46-year history. In addition, tribute was paid to founding members, honorary members, and distinguished professionals in the field of library science.

As part of the academic program, a keynote lecture titled “Open Access: Challenges and Opportunities for University Libraries” was presented by Dr. Manuel Madé-Zabala.

The celebration culminated with the official launch of the RI-ABUD Institutional Repository, a platform designed to facilitate access to resources, documents, and information related to the association’s activities and projects.
