On Saturday, March 22, the Universidad del Caribe (UNICARIBE) was the scene of an academic event of great relevance. The event was attended by renowned specialists in environmental management, renewable energy and emergency management, who shared their knowledge and experiences with students, teachers and professionals in the area.
2nd Internal Meeting of Students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Management and Renewable Energy:
The first stage of the event, held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., consisted of a meeting between students and leading industry experts, providing a space for dialogue and exchange of ideas between future professionals and specialists in the field.
First Symposium on Challenges and Opportunities in the Training of Environmental Specialists:
Subsequently, the First Symposium on Challenges and Opportunities in the Training of Environmental Specialists in the Dominican Republic was held. The opening ceremony was led by the rector of UNIREMHOS, Dr. Wady Ramírez, who also serves as president of the Dominican Association of Universities (ADOU), and the rector of UNICARIBE, Dr. Emilio Mínguez.
The words of welcome were offered by both rectors, giving way to the moderator of the event, Kamila Méndez Rubel, student of the Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Management and Renewable Energies.
This symposium addressed key topics such as:
- Trends in the training of specialists in the environmental area.
- The integration of environmental education in the country’s academic programs.
- Expectations of the private sector regarding graduates in renewable energies.
- Key competencies for risk and disaster management in emergencies.
The event was attended by high-level experts, among them:
- Ing. Edward Hilario, Sales Manager of EGERSA Solar.
- Lic. Carlos Manuel Paulino, Deputy Director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE).
- Ing. Carlos Peterson, Environmental Management Manager of ETED.
- Ing. Roberto Suriel, General Manager of RS Ingeniería y Consultoría.
Closing with a vision of the future: Nuclear energy in the Dominican Republic:
To close on a high note, UNICARIBE Rector Dr. Emilio Mínguez gave a keynote lecture entitled “Opportunities for Nuclear Energy in the Dominican Republic”, in which he explored the potential of this energy source in the country and its role in the transition to a more sustainable and efficient system.
This event represented a valuable opportunity to strengthen the link between academia and the professional sector, promoting the exchange of ideas and the analysis of challenges and opportunities in the environmental and energy fields.
