On February 13, 2025, a group of students from the Port Administration program made an academic visit to the Multimodal Port of Caucedo, as part of the Port Logistics Practice course. This experience allowed the future professionals to learn first-hand about the operations and logistics processes carried out in one of the main ports of the Caribbean.
What is the Multimodal Caucedo Port?
The Multimodal Port of Caucedo, operated by DP World, is a world-class port located in the Dominican Republic. It is one of the country’s main container terminals and plays a key role in the region’s international trade. This port combines loading and unloading services with a high-level Logistics Center, facilitating the storage, distribution and re-export of goods under special customs regimes.
Tour of the Facilities
During the visit, the students were welcomed by the port’s operations team, who gave a presentation on the general operation of the terminal and its importance in global maritime trade. Afterwards, they were taken on a guided tour of the main areas of the port, where the students were able to see the main areas of the port:
- Observe closely the movement of ships and the unloading of containers by means of state-of-the-art cranes.
- Receive an explanation of how goods are managed within the port, from receipt to dispatch, ensuring efficiency and safety in each process.
- Learn about the value-added services offered by the port, such as cargo consolidation and deconsolidation, storage of goods and regional distribution.
- Identify the importance of security in port management, including the application of international regulations and the use of advanced technologies for cargo inspection.
Importance of Practical Experience
This academic visit provided students with a real and applied view of the knowledge acquired in the classroom. Interaction with industry professionals and direct observation of operations allowed them to better understand the challenges and opportunities within the field of port logistics.
The Caucedo Multimodal Port, with its modern infrastructure and its focus on innovation and sustainability, is consolidating itself as a key learning space for future port management specialists.
With this type of experience, the academy and the port sector continue to strengthen their bond, ensuring that students receive comprehensive training aligned with the demands of the global market.
