This issue of GPS UNICARIBE sparks a much-needed conversation about one of the major challenges of the 21st century: how to ensure sufficient, safe, and sustainable energy for an increasingly electrified economy.

This edition brings together national and international experts to analyze the present and future of nuclear energy, ranging from technological advances in reactors and the development of small modular reactors (SMRs) to the potential of nuclear fusion and thorium as an alternative fuel. It also examines the experience of Latin America and the Caribbean and the conditions the Dominican Republic would need to establish in order to responsibly evaluate this alternative.

The discussion goes beyond technology. Higher education, research, regulation, safety, science communication, and talent development are all part of a decision that requires knowledge rather than opinions.
