January 2025, was a historic month for the formation of talent in semiconductor technologies in the Dominican Republic. Mr. David Yee Regional Director of Keysight Technologies for Latin America and academic authorities of the University of the Caribbean (UNICARIBE) inaugurated the UNICARIBE-KEYSIGHT Center of Excellence.
This Center is equipped with the latest technology in electrical and microelectronic measurements and instrumentation, which plays a crucial role in the training of Higher Technicians. The Center is unique in the country and is the first of its kind for its remote access capability, which means that it can be used for training students 24 hours / 7 days a week, so that students can acquire practical skills, specialized knowledge and real-world experience in the field of electrical engineering and microelectronics, fundamental skills for training in semiconductor technologies.
Specifically, the UNICARIBE-KEYSIGHT Center of Excellence will serve to perform:
- Realistic simulations: Students can perform simulations of complex electrical and microelectronic systems, allowing them to understand the operation of equipment and circuits under controlled conditions.
- Experimentation: Laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation facilitate hands-on experiments, where students can verify theories, analyze data and solve real problems.
- Calibration and maintenance: Students learn to calibrate and maintain measurement equipment, an essential skill in industrial environments.
- Innovative projects: Centers of excellence can serve as incubators for research projects, where students and faculty collaborate to develop new technologies and solutions to industry problems.
- Collaboration with industry: Linking with companies allows students to work on real projects and learn about the demands of the labor market.
The Chancellor of the University of the Caribbean (UNICARIBE) commented: “With this UNICARIBE-KEYSIGHT Center of Excellence, the graduates of the new Semiconductor Technology Technician program will have practical skills that are highly demanded by the labor market in the semiconductor and related sectors, such as the electrical and electronics industries and the medical device sector.
The equipment of the UNICARIBE-KEYSIGHT Center of Excellence includes measuring instruments: oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, programmable power supplies, as well as circuit simulators, data analysis software, etc.
