The Camilo José Cela University (UCJC) and the Universidad del Caribe (UNICARIBE), promoted a high-level meeting with relevant multilateral actors operating in the Caribbean region, with the aim of establishing an open dialogue aimed at articulating and arguing the possible creation of a shared academic training between universities in LATAM, the Caribbean and Europe, linked to educational and technological innovation, with the objective of promoting the inclusion and labor market insertion of young university students, responding to social needs and business challenges.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI), the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), the International Finance Corporation (IFC-World Bank), WISE-Qatar Foundation and academic authorities from UNICARIBE and UCJC.

The activity was presided over by the rector of UNICARIBE, Dr. Ricardo Ramírez Mendoza, and by the director of Academic Promotion and Business Development for Latin America of Camilo José Cela University, Ignacio Sell Trujillo.
The meeting took place on Monday, May 25, at UNICARIBE’s postgraduate building in Santo Domingo. During the meeting, attendees highlighted the importance of linking academic training with the needs of the productive sector, through the development of a strategy aimed at attracting talent, as well as the promotion of micro-credentials and training programs for life.

The need to strengthen the soft skills associated with innovation and social entrepreneurship was also addressed, taking as a platform the consolidated network of Sfera Experience, founded by the Universidad Camilo José Cela in 2020. This network brings together 20 universities from 18 Latin American countries, including UNICARIBE, and constitutes a strategic space to promote academic collaboration, employability and educational transformation.
The meeting reaffirms UNICARIBE’s commitment to SDG 17 and SDG 4, building bridges of communication, collaboration and alliances among stakeholders to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
