Santo Domingo. The Office of the Vice Rector for Research at the University of the Caribbean (UNICARIBE) held an online class titled “How, Where, and Why to Publish Scientific Articles,” an activity designed to build the capacity of faculty, researchers, and professionals interested in disseminating their research findings in scientific journals.

The workshop, held on Friday, July 24, was led by Dr. Vladimir Figueroa, Director of Research at the Salomé Ureña Higher Institute for Teacher Training (ISFODOSU), Editor-in-Chief of the Caribbean Journal of Educational Research, and Coordinator of SciELO Dominican Republic.

During the meeting, Dr. Vladimir presented key criteria for identifying relevant scientific journals, evaluating their scope and editorial quality, properly preparing manuscripts, and increasing the likelihood of their acceptance. In particular, he emphasized the advantages of publishing in open-access journals and avoiding predatory journals. He also stressed the need for a Current Research Information System (CRIS), the importance of identifying the journal in which one wishes to publish even before conducting the research, and concluded by discussing the proper use of artificial intelligence in manuscript writing.

The event was attended by 35 participants from various institutions, including UNICARIBE, the Central University of the East (UCE), the National University of Huancavelica, ISFODOSU, El Bosque University in Bogotá, the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic, the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, and the University of La Laguna, among others.

Through this initiative, UNICARIBE’s Office of the Vice Rector for Research continues to promote training in scientific communication, the responsible publication of research findings, and the strengthening of a culture of research both within and outside the university community.
