The Universidad del Caribe (UNICARIBE) participated in the Latin America Universities Summit 2026, an international event organized by Times Higher Education, which brought together academic leaders, rectors and experts in higher education from across the region. Leonar Durán, director of Blackboard at UNICARIBE, attended on behalf of the University.

The meeting was held at the Universidad de la Costa (CUC), in Barranquilla, Colombia, an institution that stood out for the quality of the organization and the hospitality provided by its rector, Eduardo Cressien. The summit was a space for strategic dialogue for the exchange of ideas, experiences and best practices aimed at strengthening higher education in Latin America.

During the event, the main advances and challenges of the university sector in the region were addressed, with emphasis on change management, institutional leadership, curricular innovation, research with social impact and digital transformation with strategic sense.

Among the main conclusions of the meeting were the need to move towards more flexible, modular and relevant curricula; strengthen internationalization and knowledge networks; promote applied research in coordination with the productive sector; integrate artificial intelligence into educational processes in a responsible and ethical manner; and reaffirm the role of higher education as a driver of social mobility and regional development.

The importance of promoting internationalization at home, expanding educational coverage and generating spaces for virtual mobility that respond to the new dynamics of learning, academic collaboration and the global education of students was also emphasized.

UNICARIBE’s participation in this international scenario reaffirms its commitment to SDG 4, aimed at ensuring inclusive, equitable and quality education. It also strengthens its contribution to SDG 17, through the consolidation of strategic alliances with institutions in the region and the joint construction of innovative solutions with a positive impact on society.
