With the aim of fostering entrepreneurship and comprehensive competitiveness in its students, the Universidad del Caribe (UNICARIBE) celebrated the closing of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Workshop, coordinated through UNICARIBE_LAB.

The initiative, promoted under the leadership of the institution’s Chancellor, Dr. José Alejandro Aybar, seeks to integrate the transversal competencies of the “4Cs” (Collaboration, Creativity, Communication and Critical Thinking) in all higher technical, undergraduate and graduate programs. During the workshop, participants developed projects designed to generate a positive economic, social and environmental impact.

The training process ranged from the identification of real problems and the validation of business models, to the preparation of sales pitches, with a strong focus on environmental responsibility and sustainability. Towards the MESCYT national competition. The final day served as a stage for the finalist teams to present their proposals before an evaluation jury.

The selected project will represent UNICARIBE in the next national entrepreneurship competition, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT).

Most of the initiatives presented stood out for incorporating solutions oriented towards the efficient use of resources and the reduction of environmental impact, in line with the contemporary challenges of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

With this activity, UNICARIBE_LAB reaffirms its commitment to the consolidation of a university ecosystem of Research, Development, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (R+D+i+e) that connects academia with the productive sector.

The evaluation of the projects was made up of senior academic authorities and specialists in the area, including: Dr. Rafael Núñez, Executive Director of UNICARIBE_LAB, Dr. Julián Peña, Vice Rector for Research, Dr. Edith Moya, Dean of the School of Business, Dr. Sócrates Aguasvivas, invited specialist, and Rector Dr. Ricardo A. Ramírez-Mendoza. It should be noted that this initiative permeates all the programs of the different schools under the leadership of the academic vice rector Mtra. Elisa Elena González and aligned with SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure).

The institution extended special congratulations to all participants and finalists for the quality of the proposals submitted and their commitment to social innovation with positive impact.
