This important event was organized by the University of the Caribbean (UNICARIBE), with the support of the Vice-Ministry of Nuclear Energy of the National Energy Commission, the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the Dominican Society of Radiation Protection (SOCIDOPRA) and the Federation of Radiation Protection of Latin America and the Caribbean (FRALC).
The inauguration was attended by Dr. Emilio Minguez, Rector of UNICARIBE, Eng. Gaddis Enrique Corporán Segura, Vice Minister of Nuclear Energy of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Eng. Eduardo Medina Gironzini, President of FRALC, Ms. Narkiss Almonte, Director of the Nuclear Directorate of the National Energy Commission and Dr. Naly Cruz, President of SOCIDOPRA.
The symposium was held on July 21 and 22, with presentations and panels by leading professionals from public and private organizations. Among the activities was the conference: “Importance of radiological protection in the regulation of nuclear applications” given by Ronald Pacheco, head of Radiation Source Control at the IAEA.
During the symposium was presented the Specialty in Radiation Protection, an official degree approved by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT) of the Dominican Republic, which will begin to be taught from this year at UNICARIBE with outstanding teachers from Latin America and the Caribbean.
