The University of the Caribbean (UNICARIBE) proudly took third place nationally in the Inter-University Cybersecurity 2025 CTF, an event organized by Pentraze Cybersecurity as part of the ITLA Security Fest, held from October 1-3 at the facilities of the Technological Institute of the Americas (ITLA).

About the competition:

The CTF (Capture The Flag) is an internationally recognized competition in the field of cybersecurity, where participants test their technical skills to solve challenges in areas such as:

  • Web security
  • Digital Forensics
  • Reverse engineering
  • Binary exploitation
  • Cryptography and networks

Each challenge solved awards a “flag”, which accumulates points for each team.

The event brought together students from the country’s main universities, who participated in virtual qualifying rounds (September 5-7) and an on-site final at ITLA, where the finalists demonstrated their technical mastery and teamwork.

Representation of UNICARIBE:

The UNICARIBE team showed outstanding technical preparation, discipline and collaborative work, which allowed them to obtain 3rd place among the best participating universities in the country.

The team members were:

  • Carlos Efrain Rodriguez
  • Francis Manuel Segura Féliz
  • Lesly Daliza Bello Reyoso
  • Manuel Alberto Ramos Pichardo
  • Mariobnex by Jesús Viñas Castro
  • Joan Alexander Brea Mella

The team received a commemorative trophy and a cash prize of RD$25,000, recognizing their excellent performance and commitment to cybersecurity.

Special thanks to Mtro. Rafael Ovalles for his support, leadership and accompaniment throughout the competition.

Significance of this result:

  • Institutional visibility: Obtaining a prominent place in a national cybersecurity event reinforces UNICARIBE’s academic and technological reputation.
  • Applied training: The students put into practice the knowledge acquired in classes, participating in real challenges that simulate cybersecurity work situations.
  • Bridge to opportunities: CTF winners received recognition and access to internships with Pentraze and sponsoring companies.

Commitment to innovation and technological training:

This achievement is a source of pride for everyone in the UNICARIBE community: students, faculty and institutional management. It serves as an impetus to continue strengthening cybersecurity training and to encourage future generations to participate in similar competitions.

With this experience, UNICARIBE reaffirms its commitment to technological innovation, educational excellence and the development of professionals capable of facing the challenges of the digital world.
