On February 6, 2026, as part of the Port Operations Practice course, students of the Port Administration degree program of the Universidad del Caribe (UNICARIBE) made an academic visit to the Haina International Terminal (HIT) Port, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to an education based on experience and active learning.
This training activity allowed students to leave the classroom and get closer to the reality of the port sector, experiencing first-hand the processes that make maritime trade and the economic development of the country possible, thus strengthening their professional vocation and sense of belonging to the career.

The visit was led by the director of the course and teacher Anny María Rodríguez, together with the port’s specialized personnel, who guided the students through the main operational areas, explaining the general functioning of the port and its strategic importance for national and international logistics.
During the tour, the participants learned about the key players in port management and directly observed the loading and unloading operations of containers and vehicles, as well as the security protocols, merchandise control and environmental management actions implemented for the protection of the environment.

This experience allowed students to integrate theoretical knowledge with real practice, understand the complexity of the port system and appreciate the importance of coordinated work between the different entities involved in port operations.
With initiatives such as this, UNICARIBE continues its commitment to comprehensive and quality training, preparing competent, committed professionals ready to face the challenges of the port sector, where theory is transformed into experience and learning becomes the engine of professional growth.
